"The two features I've starred in after #starringjohncho - Columbus, and now Searching - are both great stories directed by Asian Americans and supported by YOU - people who like that idea."

Searching, the latest moving starring John Cho, hits theaters nationwide this Friday, August 31. The suspenseful thriller, about a dad searching for his missing daughter, will leave viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the film. The movie is direct by Aneesh Chaganty.

In a recent Instagram post, Cho gave a nod to the viral #starringjohncho hashtag campaign, as well as moviegoers:

“Over the past few months, I’ve been asked many times to reflect on #starringjohncho, the viral movement started by William Yu that imagined me in many Hollywood blockbusters. I’ve struggled with the answer. I mean, you could argue it didn’t work. I’m neither Bond, Batman, nor Avenger.

Today, I can say that it worked out perfectly. The two features I’ve starred in after #starringjohncho – Columbus, and now Searching – are both great stories directed by Asian Americans and supported by YOU – people who like that idea. The promise of #starringjohncho was for Hollywood to cast people who look like me in Hollywood hits. Instead, you’ve made movies with people like me into Hollywood hits. That’s so much more than we could have imagined. I cannot thank you enough.”

Searching is going wide this weeknd because YOU got in theaters and MADE IT HAPPEN. Let’s keep this train going.”

Thank you.
