Jamie (Aaron Yoo) is a meek law student who hopes to shed his tired chrysalis and reinvent himself in New York City. His wealthy, free-spirited cousin Will (Leonardo Nam) is a willing accomplice, initiating a reticent Jamie with boozy house parties and darkened nightclubs.
But when Jamie meets the alluring Cat (Jackie Chung), long-dormant tensions between the cousins bubble to surface, and Jamie’s transformation takes on both dizzying and destructive proportions.
SOMEONE ELSE is an opaque, thriller of a film in the vein of Claude Chabrol’s LES COUSINS, coupled with the surreal underpinnings of MEMENTO. First-time director Nelson Kim disrupts simplistic expectations of Asian American masculinity to reveal the conflicting identities that tug the dark corners of our hearts.
