On Saturday, March 2nd, during Chitresh Das Dance Company (CDDC) and Chhandam School of Kathak’s (Chhandam) annual CDDC / Chhandam’s 2013 Arts Seva Award. The CDDC/ Chhandam bestows the Arts Seva Award to an individual, organization, or business that has significantly impacted the arts and CDDC/Chhandam’s work. The gala also featured the premiere of the documentary film UPAJ: IMPROVISE, which CAAM helped produce in association with Hindipendent Films. CAAM was selected for the award, in part because of our support of the project. UPAJ: IMPROVISE sheds light on the artistic collaboration between Pandit Das and Jason Samuels Smith as part of their efforts to preserve classical Indian cultural arts traditions for the broader community. CAAM Associate Director Kar Yin Tham accepted the award on behalf of CAAM.
