Seven days. One excuse to make the film you always wanted to make.

The Seven Day Film Festival was born out of the desire to take the inspiration, camaraderie and resourcefulness of a short film competition, but with a time constraint allowing filmmakers a greater freedom to develop their ideas and expand the scope of their creative ambitions.

In creating the Seven Day Film Festival we wanted to provide filmmakers with the opportunity to make the types of films they would want to make under normal circumstances. While we do provide constraints that will ensure a film can’t be made before the competition starts, we have carefully chosen ones that won’t force filmmakers into a genre they are uncomfortable in, or to include any sort of contrived premise that might interfere with the type of movie that they want to make.

How it works

The Seven Day Competition begins with a kickoff event where team captains will receive an information packet containing waivers, releases and the secret constraint(s) that they will be required to include in their film. Film teams will then have seven full days to conceive, write, shoot, edit and score their films using almost exclusively original material. At the end of the Seven Day Competition, the films will be submitted for review by our judges. The festival will conclude with all films being screened at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center, where winners will be announced and prizes awarded.
