Vincent Chin 40th Commemorative Film Series Screenings

The Commemorative Film Series will include special screenings of two important documentaries that honor the legacy of Vincent and Lily Chin, co-presented with the Freep Film Festival, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and American Documentary/POV.
The first gives voice to new generations fighting for a more just America, and the second is an iconic documentary that has influenced generations of filmmakers.
Bad Axe by David Siev will screen on June 16th, and the recently restored Academy Award-nominated Who Killed Vincent Chin? by Christine Choy and Renee Tajima-Peña will screen on June 17th. Filmmakers and guests in attendance.
In commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Vincent Chin’s death, a series of Remembrance & Rededication activities are being organized in partnership between the American Citizens for Justice, the Vincent and Lily Chin Estate, Detroit Public Television, Center for Asian American Media, and the City of Detroit Arts and Culture. Please note: For all Vincent Chin 40th Commemorative Film Series at the Detroit Film Theater, participants will need to register separately, so please make sure to register by clicking on the links above.
COVID PROTOCOL
To attend any and all events of the Vincent Chin 40th Remembrance & Rededication all participants are required to show at the door a current photo ID and adhere to the follow requirements:
– Participants must show proof of full vaccination in one of the following forms
1. Original vaccination cards or photocopy
2. Clear image of vaccination card stored on a phone or electronic device
3. Documentation of vaccination from healthcare provider
– If you have a disability or sincerely held religious belief that prevents you from being vaccinated, you must present a negative COVID test result for entry. The test results must be taken from either a PCR test taken within 48 hours of entry or from an antigen (rapid) test taken within 6 hours of entry with with printed results from a valid provider.
– All participants, staff and volunteers will be required to wear a mask throughout the programs. Masks will be provided when needed.
– Children under 12 who are not yet vaccinated may attend accompanied by an adult and must wear a mask.
– If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, have been in contact with anyone known to have been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19, please cancel your participation.
The Vincent Chin 40th committee asks all participants to follow these guidelines and be aware of the measures we’re taking to promote a safe experience. As community conditions evolve, we’ll adhere to standards set by the CDC, City of Detroit and State of Michigan health authorities. All COVID prevention policies are subject to change without notice.
