CAAM’s Campaign for the Future of Storytelling

CAAM has embarked on a $15 million fundraising campaign to build on CAAM’s promise to strengthen and sustain vital stories about Asian America, now and in the future.

Since 1980, CAAM has been more than an organization—it has been a home for the stories that shape who we are and who we’ll become. Stories of resilience, joy, struggle, and triumph. Stories that reflect the full continuum of the Asian American experience and, in turn, expand the understanding of what it means to be American.

Our films, programs, and outreach have touched lives, connected communities, and helped ensure that Asian American stories—so often overlooked—are seen and heard. These stories have power. They connect us, challenge us, and deepen the narrative of America itself.

If you care about the future of storytelling in America—about ensuring that the stories we see aren’t driven by outdated ideas of who belongs at the center—please consider deepening your support for CAAM. Supporting CAAM isn’t just about helping one organization; it’s about investing in the infrastructure that allows more diverse, challenging, and necessary stories to exist.

Your support means everything, especially during this time when stories about Asian America are at risk of erasure. Together, we can create a future where Asian American stories are told with power and permanence, shifting perspectives and further enriching the story of America.

With the support of generous institutional funders and donors, CAAM has raised $8 million of its $15 million goal to date. Now, we invite you and the greater community to join us and be part of this milestone campaign today. Your donation of any amount will make a positive difference and bring us closer to our goal.

CAMPAIGN PILLARS

With your donation, you will support three main pillars that will make a deep impact on CAAM’s work to support and sustain Asian American stories, now and in the future: Forward-Facing Programs, Future Generations and New Stories, and Building CAAM Within.

Forward-Facing Programs

  • Invest in an Evolving Asian American Narrative that reflect cultural shifts through film and digital content in public and independent media
  • Unlock Creative Ingenuity via CAAMFest and public programs that encompass varied and new forms of storytelling
  • Inspire Civic Engagement through the power of storytelling in public media and community building efforts, as a catalyst for deeper understanding and stronger support for Asian American communities nationwide

Future Generations, New Stories

  • Bolster Next-Level Filmmaker Support: Building on our filmmaker programs by sustaining and expanding our reach to support more underrepresented voices, launching new funds and innovative initiatives that ensure filmmakers have the tools and visibility to thrive
  • Build Future-Focused Talent Development: Nurturing a network of creatives dedicated to producing untold stories of Asian Americans, across diverse disciplines and media for greater inclusion

Building Within

  • Transform Leadership:  An executive leadership transition that ensures continuity and embraces innovation, inclusivity, and strategic growth for CAAM’s future
  • Establish Sustainability: Implementing advanced systems and operations, elevating staff development, and building a strong infrastructure that guarantees not just growth but long-term sustainability, ensuring CAAM is equipped to navigate an evolving media landscape

WAYS TO SUPPORT

Unrestricted Gifts for General Operations

Make an unrestricted gift so CAAM has the flexibility to use your gift where it’s needed most.

Restricted Gifts for Programs and Infrastructure

Your contribution to the CAAM Storytelling Fund ($8M Goal), CAAM Activate Fund ($3M Goal) and/or CAAM Core Fund ($4M Goal) will provide critical support for current use and an endowment for maximum future impact.

Donor Advised Funds

A gift from a donor advised fund is an easy way to enable you to fund CAAM over several years and itemize a larger amount of tax deductions in the year it is created.

Pledges

Donors who wish to make their gift over time can do so with a formal pledge.  Most pledges are for three years.  All donors who pledge elect a payment schedule and receive yearly reminders regarding pledge balance and amount due.

Beneficiary Designation

You can name CAAM as a beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement plans, life insurance policies, donor advised funds, or commercial annuities.

Planned Gifts

Deepen your impact and commitment to CAAM through a bequest or gift by will, your retirement plan, beneficiary designations, a charitable trust, or an estate gift. Legacy gifts ensure the well-being of the organization into the future, and serve as an inspiration to others to do the same.

For substantially sized planned gifts, you have the option to endow your gift. This requires CAAM  to hold the funds permanently and use only the annual investment income or a small percentage of the total fund each year. In this manner, your gift will continue in perpetuity.

Gifts of Securities

Making a gift of securities or mutual funds in support of CAAM’s mission can help you realize important benefits. When you donate appreciated securities or mutual funds, you can reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction, when you itemize.

A Gift From Your IRA

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift from your IRA to CAAM. By giving directly from your IRA, you can make an impact today, and also benefit from not being required to pay income taxes on the gift.

Please contact Frances Pomperada, CAAM Director of Development, at fpomperada@caamedia.org or 415-863-0814 ext. 104 to discuss the giving options available.
