We are excited to launch Silk Stream, a new digital short film series and a contemporary, digital-first reimagining of our groundbreaking Silk Screen anthology, which ran from 1982-87 and explored the identity and treatment of Asian Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Created in partnership with Flash Cuts, Silk Stream is designed for today’s audiences, especially digital-native viewers. Through public media digital platforms—including affiliated YouTube channels— the series will establish a new connection point and space for Asian American storytelling online, while discovering and amplifying exciting new voices in short-form filmmaking.
We are looking for narrative and documentary shorts that explore the depth of the Asian American experience and will acquire five to 10 short films with a $2,500 license fee per project. Selected filmmakers will work closely with CAAM and Flash Cuts on packaging, distribution, and audience engagement. The films will debut as part of a curated digital series on a CAAM-owned or affiliated public media channel in Summer 2026.
