Memories to Light 2.0
We made it!
CAAMFest just concluded and Memories to Light 2.0 had a successful screening as we debuted our first two short films of many more to come. Big thank yous to the Chin and Bohulano families for allowing us to explore their home films and sharing their memories with us.
If you weren’t able to make it out, don’t fret! We’re releasing our shorts online.
The Chin Family: In 1968, Tom Chin, an engineer with Chevron in Richmond, California, journeyed to southeast India to help establish a chemical fertilizer plant. This was a joint American and Indian venture to train Indian nationals and manufacture chemical fertilizers. Tom, his wife Dorothy, and their four children documented their extended stay in India.
The Bohulano Family: The Bohulano family’s history is inextricably linked with the history of Filipinas/os in Stockton, California, as described in Dawn Bohulano Mabalon’s book, Little Manila is in the Heart. The movies dating back to the 1960s and 1970s record community events, family gatherings, weddings, baby and wedding showers, and the births and childhoods (and dance recitals!) of the third generation in the 1970s.
