BABY, directed by Juwan Chung and the Official Selection during the 25th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, will be screening for one week starting December 12, 2008 at 4 Star Movie Theatre. Often described as the Asian American BOYZ N THE HOOD, Baby is a startling slice of urban gangland life quite any Asian American film to date.
The 27th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival is proud to announce its 1st annual Student Delegate Program. Since November 4th I’ve been feeling a mixture of relief and post-election blues — not just for the way that people voted, but for the whole process finally being over. This election season has been so long and bizarre that I had to see it through the filter of satire, with daily doses of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, and more recently the Saturday Night Live sketches which essentially wrote themselves.
As part of CAAM’s Election Initiative for 2008, I will be blogging about my personal experiences with civic engagement in the Asian American community during this past election. Here are some short stories, responses, ephemera collected from the road during the brief time I signed up with the Barack Obama presidential campaign.
Right before you start a documentary film, before you shoot a second of footage, what do you have? You might know who your main characters will be, but you have no idea of how they will “perform” on camera. You might know the history behind your project, but who knows how you’ll portray it. What we do have, of course, is a vision of what the film can be. This latter vision was the genesis for my documentary WHATEVER IT TAKES.

The 2008 Chinese American Film Festival is scheduled to be held on November 8th until November 20th in San Francisco. 12 selected and award winning films from China and Hong Kong will be screened at Marina Theatre and 4 Star Theatre with a list of confirmed VIPs of directors and producers.
