The MATCHA season culiminates in a grand finale with food, music, and dance of Afghanistan, in celebration of the highly anticipated, critically acclaimed special exhibition, Afghanistan: Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul. This is 2008’s last MATCHA. Let’s end it with a bang!

Introducing Vicci Ho, the new Assistant Director of SFIAAFF

The Center for Asian American Media is pleased to announce the hiring of Vicci Ho, as the new Assistant Director of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. Ho has worked on several film and TV productions, as well as the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, where she become the director in 2006. Ho also worked as web editor of Variety Asia and remains an occasional contributor for Variety.

P.O.V. Announces the Diverse Voices Project III

The Diverse Voices Project III, with up to $100,000 in co-production funding available to emerging filmmakers, is P.O.V.’s initiative to support stories about diverse communities. This co-production initiative is dedicated to supporting emerging filmmakers.

MANILATOWN IS IN THE HEART screening at the OIFF

Curtis Choy MANILA TOWN IS IN THE HEART ( Time Travel with Al Robles ) will screen at the 7th annual OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL on Monday, October 13, 2008. A one-man social service agency and poet, Al Robles is truly one of Asian America’s hidden gems.

Co-presentation of I LOVE BEIJING at the PFA

The Pacific Film Archive presents I LOVE BEIJING: THE FILMS OF NING YING. Ning Ying is an artist in residence at PFA this fall, appearing in person to discuss her films and offering a master class on October 27. This series is presented in conjunction with the BAM exhibition Mahjong: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Sigg Collection.

The LAB’s ROUGH CUTS call for entries

Rough Cuts is a series of work-in-progress documentary screenings that are produced every other month at the LAB, a non-profit gallery/performance space in the Mission. The LAB is seeking feature-length works with a final running time of 50 minutes or longer for its Fall series.

CAAM Production of THE PRINCESS OF NEBRASKA to be released through YouTube Screening Room

THE PRINCESS OF NEBRASKA will make its world premiere on YouTube Screening Room on Friday, October 17, 2008. Wayne Wang explains, “THE PRINCESS OF NEBRASKA is about a young woman from China who tries to locate her identity through different kinds of new media. The piece was shot with this kind of mentality with various kinds of easily accessible digital sources. I am very excited that the distribution will be consistent with the way the piece was conceived and produced!”
