“Free Solo” and “Bao” Win at the Oscars

Free Solo, directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, won Best Documentary Feature at the 2019 Oscars. Read our article and interview with Chai Vasarhelyi about the making of Free Solo here.

CAAM co-presented film on PBS Minding the Gap, directed by Bing Liu, was nominated in the same category. Liu, producer Diane Quon, and the cast attended together.

Domee Shi’s animated short film Bao won an Oscar award. “To all of the nerdy girls out there who hide behind their sketchbooks—don’t be afraid to tell your stories to the world,” Shi said.

And the cast of Crazy Rich Asians had a stunning presence on the red carpet and as presenters.
