Mr. Cao Goes… NATIONAL!

What happens when the naiveté of a political rookie clashes with the realities of racial and partisan politics of the South?  Mr. Cao Goes to Washington is a fascinating character study of Congressman Joseph Cao, a Vietnamese American Republican elected by surprise in an African American Democratic district in New Orleans. Will Cao make it through his term with his idealism intact?

Mr. Cao Goes To Washington, which premiered at the 30th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, will now hit festivals across the US.

As one of the films funded and produced by CAAM, in association with Walking Iris Productions, we wanted to share some of this documentary’s recent press and upcoming film screenings:

Documenting the brief, controversial tenure of the first Vietnamese-American elected to Congress, S. Leo Chiang’s documentary is an engrossing look at the bitter divisiveness of the present U.S. political landscape.
Dennis Harvey, Variety, Entertainment News

“Magnificent! Beautifully filmed, compellingly told, complete, complex and moving.”
Jonathan Tilove, New Orleans Times-Picayune

“Even if you don’t agree with his views, Cao puts a human (and surprisingly honest) face on the great divide between the political parties in this country.”
Cheryl Eddy, San Francisco Bay Guardian
