MVFF and CAAM present FOCUS ASIA

THE BETRAYAL (NERAKOUN), Dirs. Ellen Kuras & Thavisouk Phrasavath
More than 23 years in the making, this arresting documentary from
cinematographer Ellen Kuras and co-director Thavisouk Phrasavath traces the
latter’s journey from the killing fields of Laos to the rough side of
Brooklyn.

Robin Weng’s extraordinary two-part tale of criminal underworld life in “the
Golden Triangle” of China’s Fujian province, during the country’s capitalist
glory days, is truly unlike anything else you’ve seen before.

The intersecting lives of an array of ordinary people form the rich tapestry
of God Man Dog, an absorbing ensemble drama by Taiwanese
director-screenwriter Singing Chen that looks at spirituality on both
literal and metaphorical levels.

HELLO, STRANGER, Korea, Dir. Kim Dong-Hyun
Kim Dong-Hyun’s dramedy depicts a North Korean immigrant’s attempts to
adjust to life in the capitalist free-for-all of Seoul and help a fellow
refugee find his long-lost love.

WHAT ON EARTH HAVE I DONE WRONG? Taiwan, Dir. Doze Chen-Zer Niu
A winner at this year’s Rotterdam Film Festival, this scathing look at
showbiz hell from director Doze Chen-Zer Niu turns this film à clef comedy
into one flammable cocktail. US Premiere
