How do I order?

You can order video/DVD purchases and rentals online with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express) or authorized institutional Purchase Order using our secure shopping cart. You will receive an immediate confirmation of your order by email. If you are using a Purchase Order, please fax or mail us the actual Purchase Order with the complete contact information of the accounts payable department and the name of the person authorizing the payment.

You may also place an order by mail or fax using the printer friendly order form generated through our online shopping cart system or by downloading the printable order form below. Please complete all of the information necessary and if using a Purchase Order please include this with your form.

What is the turnaround time?

Regular orders are processed in the order received within three to five business days. You’ll have shipping options that range from ground to next day delivery. If applicable, please specify screening dates for purchases and rentals. We request at least two weeks advance notice prior to your screening, otherwise, a $20 rush fee may be added to regular shipping charges. To expedite delivery, you may also provide us with your Fed Ex account number and add a $5 handling fee, rather than paying the rush shipping fees as specified below in Shipping and Handling.

RUSH ORDERS: we ship via FedEx or UPS 2-Day. Add an additional $20 for 2-Day rush service or $25 for Next Day rush service to the regular shipping charge. If priority overnight delivery is required, please contact us. Please note that all rush orders must be received by 12 noon (Pacific Standard Time) for shipments to be sent out the same-day. Orders received after 12 noon (Pacific Standard Time) will be shipped the next business day.

What rights am I purchasing?

When purchasing films at the College/Institution or K12/Public Library/Community Group price, Public Performance Rights (PPR) are included. The higher institutional prices correspond to the rights for public exhibition. These rights allow the purchasing entity to screen the film an unlimited number of times on their premises for non-paying audiences. Screenings where admission is charged are usually billed at a percentage of projected box office income.

We carry a selection of video/DVD titles that are available for personal use only. These videos/DVDs may be used in the home or non-public place for personal viewing or viewing with family and friends. These films and videos may not be screened, loaned or broadcast for any group for either educational or commercial purposes.

Broadcast and cablecast licensing is available for some titles. Please call for more information.

All films and videos are protected by United States copyright law. Unless otherwise indicated, duplication, reproduction, alteration, subleasing, television and internet broadcast, or commercial use (i.e., charging admission) are strictly prohibited without prior written consent from CAAM.

NOTE: When you purchase or rent these programs, keep in mind that a good portion of the price is returned to the filmmaker or production company in royalties, helping them to recover production costs or invest in a new project.

Do you offer discounts?

In addition to our special K-12/Public Library/Non-Profit pricing, we may also offer promotional or bulk discounts. Depending on the size of the orders we will make efforts to reduce fees on shipping and handling. Please contact us for more information or wholesale/sub-distribution inquiries.

When do I pay?

Pre-payment is required prior to shipping unless ordering with an authorized institutional Purchase Order. Payment must be received by the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) within 30 days of receipt of invoice when using a Purchase Order. Penalty fees may be added to all delinquent payments.

Can I return an order after purchase?

All sales are final unless damaged or defective and must be returned within 30 days of purchase for replacement.

What are the shipping and handling costs?

For institutional/educational orders, materials are shipped prepaid via standard FedEx-Ground unless otherwise arranged. We cannot ship to post office boxes unless you request shipping via U.S. Postal Service.

Domestic Shipping and Handling for Videotapes & DVDs:
$15 when ordering just one unit
$10 each when ordering 2 -5 units ($20 for 2 units, $30 for 3, etc.)
$8 each when ordering 6 – 9 units

Please call for rates when ordering 10 units or more.

16mm & 35mm FILMS: $25 handling fee per reel plus actual weight charge via FedEx. Please contact us for availability.

Delivery for standard shipping takes approximately 7-10 business days upon receipt of order information and payment or authorized institutional purchase order.

Shipping to Hawaii and Alaska subject to additional shipping fees.

Note: The Center for Asian American Media is not responsible for unforeseen delays in shipping. We will do our best to avoid delays and to remedy situations, but full charges will still apply if such a delay occurs.

Can I preview a film before I buy it for a class?

Yes, educators can preview a film for a two week (14-day) period at a nominal fee of $15 for evaluation purposes only; use in the classroom or for public performance is strictly prohibited and subject to payment/fees. The preview fee includes shipping and a $10 credit will be applied if you decide to purchase or rent the title. At this time, previews are not available outside the U.S.

How does the rental process work?

Rentals are not available for home-use customers or customers outside of the USA.

The rental fee listed is for one screening only. Second screenings are billed at 50% of the rental fee; all subsequent screenings are billed at 25% of the rental fee. The rental fee includes public performance rights for non-paying audiences only. Screenings where admission is charged are usually billed at a percentage of projected box office income. Please call us to discuss availability and fee before ordering.

Please remember to specify the date of your screening(s). Rush shipping fees may apply if rental orders are placed less than 2 weeks before the screening date.

Return shipping is the responsibility of the renter and must be insured and shipped via UPS, DHL or FedEx on the first business day following the last scheduled screening. Late return fees apply; if rentals are returned later than two weeks after the screening date, the customer will be billed for the full purchase amount.

Renter assumes full responsibility for loss or damage to materials while in his/her possession or during transit back to CAAM. Please insure rental returns wisely as established above. If materials are lost or damaged, renter is liable for the full replacement cost.

Insurance for return shipping: Videos up to 30 minutes long should be insured for $200; up to 60 minutes, $300. For film prints up to 30 minutes, insure for $300; up to 60 minutes, $600.

Can I get a discount to upgrade my VHS copy to DVD?

How can I replace a damaged VHS or DVD?

A replacement copy can be obtained for $50 + shipping and handling. Please send the damaged tape or disc back to CAAM at the address below with a note describing your request for replacement and payment information.

Are your DVDs region encoded?

Unless indicated, our DVDs are formatted as DVD-R, which are not region encoded. They should be compatible with most recent DVD players anywhere in the world. However, DVD-Rs may not play on all DVD equipment. Please make sure that your player can play DVD-R discs before ordering titles in that format.
