Development and Communications Intern

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) seeks a motivated individual who is passionate about the Asian American community and media arts to join the CAAM development and communications team. Our Development and Communications department manages special events, fundraising and marketing activities for CAAM.

The intern will be introduced to Asian American history and the world of public and independent media at one of the most prestigious Asian American media arts organization in the country. The candidate will finish the internship having gained skills and knowledge in the areas of marketing, event planning and fundraising in a professional non-profit setting.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Works with the Development staff to conduct research, solicit, and contract potential event sponsors
• Assist with May Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and CAAMFest San Jose special events
• Write and design marketing materials
• Assist with membership program as needed
• General administrative support including filing, database entry and mailings

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Development Intern should have excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, experience with online research, problem-solving skills, follow-through and initiative. The ideal candidate works well independently as well as in fast paced team setting.

Fluency with Mac computers and MS Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, video editing software or databases and prior marketing or advertising experience, a plus.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: May 26 – October 2015 (option to extend internship is a possibility)
TIME COMMITMENT: 15 – 20 hours per week
SALARY: Unpaid. College credit may be available.
