SOMA Pilipinas Recognized by CA as Cultural District

The cultural district gets state recognition. Check out some of our SOMA Pilipinas stories.

Last year, we announced the news that SOMA Pilipinas was recognized as a cultural district by the city of San Francisco. Just recently, SOMA Pilipinas received a California state certification as a cultural district.

Leading up to Filipino American History Month last October, we partnered with StoryCorps in San Francisco to capture some of the rich arts, history and cultural oral histories from the neighborhood. SOMA is a neighborhood in San Francisco where CAAM’s offices are located.

In other exciting SOMA news, the group is also launching UNDISCOVERED, a curated collection of emerging artists and merchants that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the SOMA Pilipinas district, and our very own CAAMFest music curator/dj extraordinaire and 2017 CAAMFest CAAMbassador is helping to organize UNDISCOVERED. Find out more about UNDISCOVERED and support the launch of it through their IndieGoGo campaign. The deadline to donate via IndieGoGo is in 13 days.

Here are some highlights from our StoryCorps sessions, as well an overview article about the cultural district.
