CAAMFest Food + Film in Oakland

Join us for films, food and fun with CAAMFest at The New Parkway and Oakland Museum of California this weekend. UPDATE: Asian-inspired menu items at The New Parkway!

Update: Due to popular demand, an encore presentation of Changing Season: On the Masumoto Family Farm has been added on Saturday, March 21, 2015 7pm at The New Parkway. Note that the original screening of Lucky Chow at the same time has been changed to Changing Season. Please contact our box office team at boxoffice@caamedia.org with any questions.

CAAMFest is excited to be back in Oakland for the second year! The last two days of the festival will take place in Oakland, with screenings and events at The New Parkway Theater and Oakland Museum of California. We have many delectable items for you to choose from during closing weekend, from lucky peaches at the CAAM-funded documentary Changing Season: On the Masumoto Family Farm at OMCA preceded by the wildly popular “Off the Grid” phenomenon, to our Closing Night Film, Lucky Chow, which takes place on March 22 and features Danielle Chang of LUCKYRICE as she takes you behind-the-scenes to the hottest places in the Asian American culinary world. (Please see the full lineup of CAAMFest films in Oakland here).

We’re also delighted that The New Parkway Theater is creating a special menu for all CAAMFest screenings at The New Parkway on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22. For those of you who’ve never been to The New Parkway, it’s a beloved community movie theater with cozy couches where you can enjoy films and food.

Head Chef Charles Henderson is a born and bred Oakland native who attended the culinary program at Laney College before getting scooped up as The New Parkway’s inaugural chef. He’s created a special menu for the CAAMFest 2015 screenings at The New Parkway. I got to visit when Henderson was testing out some of the dishes. Check out some of his Asian-inspired dishes for the CAAMFest menu in the photos above and in the video below. The theater kitchen will also serve additional Asian-inspired dishes and all of its regular menu items, from cheese pizza to kids’ quesadillas to popcorn, coffee, beer and Italian sodas.
