Formerly known as the National Asian American Telecommunications Association (NAATA) CAAM is a non-profit organization dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible. We do this by funding, producing, distributing and exhibiting works in film, television and digital media.

Produced by CAAM, CAAMFest is the nation’s largest showcase for new Asian American and Asian films, annually presenting approximately 130 works in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland. Since 1982, the festival has been an important launching point for Asian American independent filmmakers as well as a vital source for new Asian cinema, accepting films, videos, and digital and interactive media projects that are made by or about Asian Americans and Asians of any nationality.

There are several competition categories including: the Comcast Narrative Competition, the Documentary Competition, the Emerging Filmmaker Award, the Best Narrative Audience Award, the Best Documentary Audience Award and Loni Ding Award in Social Issue Documentary Award. See past award winners.

CAAMFest aspires to incite dialogue and community engagement, motivated by “the innovative ways Asian Americans are contributing to and shaping American Identity and Culture,” says Stephen Gong, Executive Director of CAAM. In doing so, CAAMFest also showcases music, food, and interactive workshops. The 2013 festival itself drew an attendance of 25,000, including more than 250 filmmakers and industry guests from around the world. CAAMFest provides essential opportunities for exposure and engagement for visiting filmmakers in the San Francisco Bay Area.
