MIWA: A JAPANESE ICON
The glamorous heroine of Kinji Fukasaku’s 1968 film Black Lizard was played by a man, Akihiro Miwa. The film looks back at the unique destiny of a man who has spent 50 years defying questions of gender, all the while remaining an extremely popular celebrity in Japan, thanks to his films (acting for Kitano and dubbing for Miyazaki), songs, television programmes and handbooks for young girls.

MADAME X
Madame X, the first feature film of Lucky Kuswandi, lets us have it all at once: the action-loaded superhero movie, the never-ending-laughter trashiness of queer comedy, and the social consciousness of political film.
