On Novemeber 1st, on a chilly San Francisco evening, CAAM and the Asian Art Museum teamed up to present a multimedia extravaganza event at the November MATCHA held at the Asian Art Museum. On a night when there were so many things going on, the YouTube Challenge was a huge crowd pleaser, an event where CAAM staff and the audience shared their favorite YouTube videos on a giant projected screen. The audience voted on their favorite clips and there were many laughs to be shared.

The November MATCHA also featured a few exhibits like the beautiful three channel video installation entitled “Umeboshi Alterpiece” by Sean Morijiro Sunada O’ Gara. O’Gara used the three flat screen panels as a medium to present his wonderful photography of singular pieces of Umeboshi, pickled ume fruit. And roaming throughout all these events were two commissioned filmmakers, Emiko Omori and Michael Kinomoto, who were each creating their own short video piece inspired by the Hiroshi Sugimoto: History of History exhibit. Check back in December to see these short works on the website!

And to top it all off and make the mood right throughout the whole night, DJ Nako (Popscene) spun some brilliant music.

Here are some of the audience’s favorite YouTube videos from that night:
